Significant Trees of Rippon Lea

1pm - 1.45pm

Wednesday 20 April 2022

As part of the Australian Heritage Festival, join us for a walking tour of Rippon Lea’s significant trees

The trees at Rippon Lea play an important part in the Estate’s history, with some dating back to the 1880s. This walking tour will provide a fascinating insight into the work required to manage and nurture this magnificent collection for the enjoyment of both today’s visitors and future generations.

“A score of years ago Rippon Lea was a flat, sandy waste; now it is a model landscape garden, showing nature idealised and full of delightful surprises…” The Sydney Mail, 13 September 1902.

Rippon Lea Estate boasts an abundance of beautiful trees and is a tranquil oasis in the heart of suburbia. Spread over 14 acres, this living collection is as much a part of the history and enjoyment of the Estate as the buildings and furniture. It is part of the legacy of Sir Frederick Sargood, Rippon Lea’s original owner, who planted them knowing that he would never live to see the gardens reach their full potential. Led by one of our experienced gardeners, this tour will give a fascinating insight into the work required and the challenges involved in nurturing this magnificent living collection for future generations.
