Location

Rippon Lea Estate is located approximately 7kms from Melbourne’s CBD, in the bayside suburb of Elsternwick at 192 Hotham Street.

 

GARDENS ARE NOW OPEN

Come and witness the splendour of spring while our gardens are at their botanical best and bursting with colour. Take a leisurely wander around acres of green space, relish a picnic lunch under a centuries-old tree, or bring the kids along to explore the Gruffalo Spotter 2 Trail with new interactivity.

As we re-open our gardens, the safety of our visitors and staff remain our top priority.  Please note the following protective measures and Conditions of Entry which apply to all visitors and staff:

Updated conditions of Entry:
– Must not enter if experiencing any flu-like symptoms (fever, sore throat, runny nose, persistent cough, shortness of breath)
– Visitors over 12 years old must wear a face mask if indoors or if unable to socially distance
– You must register your details with us upon entering the gardens by scanning the QR code
– Observe personal health and hygiene measures, as well as safe social distancing signage and contactless transactions
– Please note that areas may be partially closed off to implement safety protocols, including the Gatehouse Tea Rooms at Rippon Lea Estate 

Please note due to restrictions Rippon Lea Estate has a capacity of 2000 people. If the capacity is reached you will not be able to enter.

MISS FISHER & THE CRYPT OF TEARS EXHIBITION

We are thrilled to announce that the Miss Fisher & the Crypt of Tears Exhibition will open Thursday 3 December 2020, running until late May 2021. Ever-stylish sleuth, Miss Phryne Fisher, is ready to show off her dazzling wardrobe in one of Melbourne’s most resplendent settings. Timed tickets are now available to purchase, click here.

Admission tickets are available for purchase from the ticket box. Please note tickets are not available to purchase online.

Please note that until July 2021 general admission also includes The Gruffalo Trail. A new experience that takes visitors on a journey through the winding paths and gardens to spot characters from the popular children’s book using a new augmented reality app.

Glen Eira esidents – Garden Entry
City of Glen Eira residents have free access to the gardens at Rippon Lea Estate.

Guided tours of the mansion and gardens are an additional $5 per person, per tour.

Port Phillip Residents – Garden Entry
City of Port Phillip residents have free access to the gardens at Rippon Lea Estate.

To obtain an entry card, residents must show acceptable forms of ID with proof of residency and have completed an application form (available via the link above or at the Rippon Lea gatehouse entry).
Please note: It is a condition of entry that the Garden Entry card must be presented each visit. Without the card, general admission fees apply.

Amenities

The Gatehouse Tea Room – closed
During your visit to Rippon Lea, why not make use of our tea rooms situated in the Gatehouse. A range of sweets, hot and cold drinks are available during your exploration of the beautiful estate.

The Gatehouse Gift Shop – closed
There is a lovely selection of gifts and homewares to suit everyone’s taste.

Getting Here

By Train
The property is a five minute walk from Rippon Lea Station, on the Sandringham Line.

By Tram
Catch Tram Route 67 (to Carnegie) to stop number 42 – Tram Tracker ID 2042
Tracker Stop ID 1042 (to Melbourne University)

By Bus
The 216 or 219 Bus departs from Queen Street in the City on the south east corner of Queen and Collins Streets. Depending on traffic the journey takes 30 – 45 minutes. There is a stop directly outside Rippon Lea Estate. Ask the driver to set you down at the first stop after Glen Eira Road.

By Car
Parking is available locally should you wish to drive (Mel ref 67 F2) – please note that there is no onsite parking.

Accessibility

Parking
Should you have mobility issues where offsite parking is problematic please email ripponlea@nattrust.com.au  to arrange suitable access.
To accommodate requests we prefer 24 hours’ notice.

Bathrooms
There are accessible bathrooms located in the Gatehouse and in the new toilet block located next to the Coach House.

Mansion
There is disabled access to the ground floor only of the Mansion. There is an iPad available for people doing a guided tour with pictures of what is located on the upper floor. Please speak to the guide.
Prams can not be taken through the mansion. They can be left on the step at the front door.

Grounds
Please note that the garden paths are gravel and can make wheelchair access difficult. Please speak to the staff in the Gatehouse for a map which highlights the more wheelchair friendly paths.

Note: Only trained Service Animals will be permitted on site.
