Rippon Lea Estate is located approximately 7kms from Melbourne’s CBD, in the bayside suburb of Elsternwick at 192 Hotham Street.

Open daily, 10am – 4pm (last entry 3.30pm)

Closed Good Friday and Christmas Day.

What’s On

Come and witness the beauty of nature. Wander around acres of green space, enjoy a picnic on the lawn, or bring the kids along to explore the Gruffalo Trail with new features.

Shop lovingly handmade art and design on the sprawling lawns of Rippon Lea Estate at The Trust Makers’ Market on the first Sunday of the month from 10am – 3pm.

Join us for a 45-minute social history tour of the garden on select days. See the schedule here.

 

Guided Tours

Mansion tours operate hourly from 10.30am to 2.30pm. Duration: 45-minutes.

Admission tickets are available for purchase from the ticket box. Please note tickets are not available to purchase online.

Please note your general admission also includes The Gruffalo Trail. A new experience that takes visitors on a journey through the winding paths and gardens to spot characters from the popular children’s book using a new augmented reality app.

Glen Eira residents – Garden Entry
City of Glen Eira residents have free access to the gardens at Rippon Lea Estate.

Guided tours of the mansion and gardens are an additional $5 per person, per tour.

Port Phillip Residents – Garden Entry
City of Port Phillip residents have free access to the gardens at Rippon Lea Estate.

To obtain an entry card, residents must show acceptable forms of ID with proof of residency and have completed an application form (available via the link above or at the Rippon Lea gatehouse entry).

Please note: It is a condition of entry that the Garden Entry card must be presented each visit. Without the card, general admission fees apply.

Conditions of Entry

The safety of our visitors and staff remain our top priority.  Please note the following Conditions of Entry which apply to all visitors to Rippon Lea Estate:

– Must not enter if experiencing any flu-like symptoms (fever, sore throat, runny nose, persistent cough, shortness of breath)
– Visitors over 12 years old must wear a face mask if indoors
– You must register your details with us upon entry by scanning the QR code, please download the Service Victoria app prior to your visit for a smooth check-in process
– Observe personal health and hygiene measures, as well as safe social distancing signage and contactless transaction.

Amenities

Tea Room – Open
During your visit to Rippon Lea Estate, why not make use of our tea rooms. We are serving tea, coffee, cold drinks and biscuits.
Outdoor seating is available within the nursery and western veranda. Please note indoor seating is not currently available.

The Gatehouse Gift Shop – Open
There is a lovely selection of gifts and homewares to suit everyone’s taste.

Getting Here

By Train
The property is a five-minute walk from Rippon Lea Station, on the Sandringham Line.

By Tram
Catch Tram Route 67 (to Carnegie) to stop number 42 – Tram Tracker ID 2042
Tracker Stop ID 1042 (to Melbourne University)

By Bus
The 216 or 219 Bus departs from Queen Street in the City on the southeast corner of Queen and Collins Streets. Depending on traffic the journey takes 30 – 45 minutes. There is a stop directly outside Rippon Lea Estate. Ask the driver to set you down at the first stop after Glen Eira Road.

By Car
Parking is available locally should you wish to drive (Mel ref 67 F2) – please note that there is no onsite parking.

Accessibility

Parking
Should you have mobility issues where offsite parking is problematic please email ripponlea@nattrust.com.au  to arrange suitable access.
To accommodate requests we prefer 48 hours’ notice.

Bathrooms
Toilets are located near the stables complex at the eastern end of the property. A child change table is located within the ambulant toilet cubicle.

Mansion
There is disabled access to the ground floor only of the Mansion. There is an iPad available for people doing a guided tour with pictures of what is located on the upper floor. Please speak to the guide. Prams can not be taken through the mansion. They can be left on the step at the front door.

Grounds
Please note that the garden paths are gravel and can make wheelchair access difficult. Please speak to the staff upon entry for a map that highlights the more wheelchair-friendly paths.

Note: Only trained Service Animals will be permitted on site.
