General Admission
Wander around the stunning 14 acre gardens, tour inside the historic mansion and visit the Gatehouse Tea Room. Entry to the mansion is by guided tour only*, see below.

FREE admission for National Trust members.

Please note from August 2019 to July 2020 general admission also includes The Gruffalo Trail. A new experience that takes visitors on a journey through the winding paths and gardens to spot characters from the popular children’s book using a new augmented reality app.

Glen Eira Residents – Garden Entry
Residents of Glen Eira have free access to the gardens at Rippon Lea.
Guided tours of the mansion and gardens are an additional $5 per person, per tour.

To obtain an entry card, residents must show acceptable forms of ID with proof of residency and complete an application form available in the Gatehouse on entry to the property.
Please note: It is a condition of entry that the Garden Entry card must be presented each visit. Without the card, general admission fees apply.

Guided Tours

Discover all the wonders of the Estate by joining a guided tour.

The Mansion
Entry to the mansion is via guided tour only.
Join our wonderful volunteer guides for a tour and learn about Rippon Lea’s history and the people who called this amazing place home.
Mansion tours run daily from 10.30am – 3pm* and are 45 minutes duration.

The Gardens
There are 14 acres of grounds to explore.
Join one of our garden tours and learn all about the social history of the estate.
Garden tours run most days between 11am – 2pm* and are 45 minutes duration.
Please note: the tower at the lake is currently closed for repairs and maintenance

The Gatehouse Tea Room
During your visit to Rippon Lea, why not make use of our tea rooms situated in the Gatehouse. A range of sweets, hot and cold drinks are available during your exploration of the beautiful estate.

Getting Here

By Train
The property is a five minute walk from Rippon Lea Station, on the Sandringham Line.

By Tram
Catch Tram Route 67 (to Carnegie) to stop number 42 – Tram Tracker ID 2042
Tracker Stop ID 1042 (to Melbourne University)

By Bus
The 216 or 219 Bus departs from Queen Street in the City on the south east corner of Queen and Collins Streets. Depending on traffic the journey takes 30 – 45 minutes. There is a stop directly outside Rippon Lea Estate. Ask the driver to set you down at the first stop after Glen Eira Road.

By Car
Parking is available locally should you wish to drive (Mel ref 67 F2) – please note that there is no onsite parking.


Should you have mobility issues where offsite parking is problematic please email  to arrange suitable access.
To accommodate requests we prefer 24 hours’ notice.

There are accessible bathrooms located in the Gatehouse and in the new toilet block located next to the Coach House.

There is disabled access to the ground floor only of the Mansion. There is an iPad available for people doing a guided tour with pictures of what is located on the upper floor. Please speak to the guide.
Prams can not be taken through the mansion. They can be left on the step at the front door.

Please note that the garden paths are gravel and can make wheelchair access difficult. Please speak to the staff in the Gatehouse for a map which highlights the more wheelchair friendly paths.

Note: Only trained Service Animals will be permitted on site.
