Rippon Lea House & Gardens is located approximately 7kms from Melbourne’s CBD, in the bayside suburb of Elsternwick.

The Mansion
Please note the mansion will be closed 4 – 16 November while we pack up the Super 70s exhibition.
House tours will resume on 17th November

The Gardens
There are 14 acres of grounds to explore. You can do this on your own or join one of our garden tours and learn all about the fascinating history of the estate. Tours are run most days.

The Gatehouse Tea Room
During your visit to Rippon Lea, why not make use of our tea rooms situated in the Gatehouse. A range of sweets, hot and cold drinks are available during your exploration of the beautiful estate.

The Gatehouse Gift Shop
There is a lovely selection of gifts and homewares to suit everyone’s taste.
Shop with the National Trust and you’ll be supporting our valuable work.
National Trust Members receive 10% off all purchases on presentation of their membership card.

Glen Eira Residents – Garden Entry
Residents of Glen Eira have free access to the gardens at Rippon Lea.
To obtain an entry card, residents must show acceptable forms of ID with proof of residency and complete an application form available in the Gatehouse on entry to the property.

Getting Here

By Train
The property is a five minute walk from Rippon Lea Station, on the Sandringham Line.

By Tram
Catch Tram Route 67 (to Carnegie) to stop number 42 – Tram Tracker ID 2042
Tracker Stop ID 1042 (to Melbourne University)

By Bus
The 216 or 219 Bus departs from Queen Street in the City on the south east corner of Queen and Collins Streets. Depending on traffic the journey takes 30 – 45 minutes. There is a stop directly outside Rippon Lea Estate. Ask the driver to set you down at the first stop after Glen Eira Road.

By Car
Parking is available locally should you wish to drive (Mel ref 67 F2) – please note that there is no onsite parking.



Should you have mobility issues where offsite parking is problematic please email  to arrange suitable access. To accommodate requests we prefer 24 hours’ notice.

The Rippon Lea Gatehouse has disabled bathroom facilities and there is disabled access to the ground floor only of the Mansion.

Prams can not be taken through the mansion. They can be left on the step at the front door.

Please note that the garden paths are gravel and can make wheelchair access difficult. Please speak to the staff in the Gatehouse for a map which highlights the more wheelchair friendly paths.

Note: Only trained Service Animals will be permitted on site.
