Rippon Lea Estate is located at 192 Hotham Street, Elsternwick, Victoria.

Entry to the Estate is through the Gatehouse on Hotham Street.

Open daily, 10am – 5pm (last entry 4.30pm)

Closed on Good Friday & Christmas Day.

Mansion tours operate throughout the day subject to guide availability, with the last tour at 2pm.

Please note that entry to the mansion is only offered by guided tour.

What’s On

• Take an insightful tour around the 14-acre garden and discover its significant social history.

• Indulge in a memorable outdoor experience with our exclusive range of Grazed and Boxed picnic boxes, filled with gourmet treats and enjoy a picnic in the sprawling grounds.

• Explore the significant trees of Rippon Lea Estate with the C My Trees App and better appreciate their enormous benefits in tackling climate change.

Hidden Rippon Lea is a sound and AR experience, which explores the hidden and underground water narratives that beneath visitors feet.

• Take a guided walk around the gardens with Bird Spotting Tours and discover the diverse family of birds that call Rippon Lea home.

• Shop lovingly handmade art and design on the sprawling lawns of Rippon Lea Estate at The Trust Makers’ Market on select Sundays each month

General Admission
Admission tickets are available for purchase from the ticket box.

$15 Adult
$12 Concession
$9 Children (3-15 years)
$40 Family (2 adults + 2 children)
FREE admission for National Trust members.

FREE Garden Entry for Glen Eira & Port Phillip Council Residents
City of Glen Eira & Port Philip residents have free access to the gardens at Rippon Lea Estate.

Guided tours of the mansion are an additional $5 per person, per tour.

To obtain an entry card, residents must show acceptable forms of ID with proof of residency and have completed an application form (available via the link above or at the Rippon Lea gatehouse entry).

Please note: It is a condition of entry that the Garden Entry card must be presented each visit. Without the card, general admission fees apply.

Amenities

Tea Room
Please note that the Tea Rooms are open for takeaway hot and cold drinks, ice cream, and biscuits. Sandwiches and cakes will be on offer when available. Takeaway drinks and food can be enjoyed on the main mansion veranda where tables and chairs will be provided to soak up the beautiful views of the garden.

Getting Here

By Train
The property is a five-minute walk from Rippon Lea Station, on the Sandringham Line.

By Tram
Catch Tram Route 67 (to Carnegie) to stop number 42 – Tram Tracker ID 2042
Tracker Stop ID 1042 (to Melbourne University)

By Bus
The 216 or 219 Bus departs from Queen Street in the City on the southeast corner of Queen and Collins Streets. Depending on traffic the journey takes 30 – 45 minutes. There is a stop directly outside Rippon Lea Estate. Ask the driver to set you down at the first stop after Glen Eira Road.

By Car
Parking is available locally should you wish to drive (Mel ref 67 F2) – please note that there is no onsite parking.

Accessibility

Parking
Should you have mobility issues where offsite parking is problematic please email ripponlea@nattrust.com.au  to arrange suitable access.
To accommodate requests we prefer 48 hours’ notice.

Bathrooms
Toilets are located near the stables complex at the eastern end of the property. A child change table is located within the ambulant toilet cubicle.

Mansion
There is disabled access to the ground floor only of the Mansion. There is an iPad available for people doing a guided tour with pictures of what is located on the upper floor. Please speak to the guide. Prams can not be taken through the mansion. They can be left on the step at the front door.

Grounds
Please note that the garden paths are gravel and can make wheelchair access difficult. Please speak to the staff upon entry for a map that highlights the more wheelchair-friendly paths.
